After failing to land an NBA contract this summer, free-agent forward Josh Smith has signed a contract with the Sichuan Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association.

The deal is reportedly worth a total of $1.5 million over three months, according to international reporter David Pick.

The 30-year-old spent time with both the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets this past season, averaging 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on just 36.4 percent shooting.

Despite his best efforts, Smith was never able to develop a respectable three-point shot in his career, shooting just 28.5 percent from deep over 12 NBA seasons.

Smith will look to re-establish himself during his time with Sichuan, who is fresh off its first championship in franchise history.
