Spoelstra rebrands Wade as 'Dwyane Korver' following 3-point renaissance

A new-look Dwyane Wade is here to flip every narrative on its head in his Chicago homecoming.

The story with the Bulls heading into the season centered around their lack of shooting. Every member of their starting five is a below-average career 3-point shooter.

Put it this way: Their shooting guard made just seven threes last season.

But lo and behold, Wade has opened the season hitting 4-of-6 from deep and even drained a dagger three to put away the visiting Boston Celtics on Thursday.

Wade's friends around the league have taken notice. Erik Spoelstra, his longtime coach with the Miami Heat, compared Wade to ex-Bulls sharpshooter Kyle Korver.

"Shoot, he looks like Dwyane Korver right now," Spoelstra said, according to Shandel Richardson of the Miami Sun Sentinel.

Wade clearly has a long way to go before matching Korver's marksmanship, but Spoelstra insists the difference isn't as stark as Wade's career 3-point average of 28.6 percent might suggest.

"Don't let him fool you. He would put up those kind of numbers during the playoffs when it really mattered, when defenses tightened up. He can answer that bell when needed. He can adapt to whatever is needed."

LeBron James, meanwhile, offered a similar explanation for Wade's deceptively accurate jumper.

"He's been doing it for 14 years. He hasn't been shooting the 3 like that for 14 years, but it was good to see him play the way he did," James told reporters Friday, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. "I know it had to feel real good to him to knock down that clutch jumper, that stepback 3 going left to end that game. It was definitely a great welcome home for himself and those fans."
