Lakers' Jose Calderon: Will not play Friday

Calderon (calf) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Jazz, Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Analysis:

The Lakers had listed Calderon as doubtful coming into the game while he continues to battle a left calf strain. The veteran point guard is hopeful to return to action Sunday against the Thunder, which seems like a good possibility if he's able to put in a practice Saturday. With starting point guard D'Angelo Russell locked into a high-minute role and sixth man Jordan Clarkson able to run the offense on the second unit, the Lakers may not ask Calderon to play much this season.
