Ejected 76ers fan apologizes, claims Westbrook called him fat

The lowlight of the Philadelphia 76ers' home opener Wednesday was a fan getting ejected for flipping Russell Westbrook the double bird.

Richard Harkaway, a doctor and part-time comedian, is apparently sorry after his actions led to him losing his courtside seats and going viral in the worst way.

On Thursday, Harkaway blamed the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard for provoking him before apologizing to all involved in a statement to Jonathan Tannenwald and Sam Wood of Philly.com:

As a part-time comedian I realize that my words and actions are sometimes inappropriate. In this instance, after standing up to boo and being provoked by Russell Westbrook calling attention to my being overweight, my action in response was clearly inexcusable and I am embarrassed. I sincerely apologize to my fellow Sixers fans, the Sixers organization, my colleagues and patients, and to Mr. Westbrook for my behavior.

Here's an angle showing Westbrook's reaction to Harkaway:

The All-NBA guard took the high road when asked about the incident following his team's 103-97 victory, saying he's "turned a new leaf" and didn't want to find himself in an altercation with another fan, having faced fines in the past.

The following video shows the physician being escorted out of the arena by security:

He looks pretty pumped to become "an internet hero," asking "You like that?" before raising both arms in the air.

No, we do not.
