Blake Griffin: Any free-agency rumors about me are false

NBA

Blake Griffin is set to become one of the marquee names on the market next summer, but don't believe everything you hear.

Griffin says he hasn't even had a conversation about the vaunted summer of 2017, claiming that any rumors about his intentions are untrue.

"Contract year or not a contract year, I'm playing the exact same way and focused on the exact same things," Griffin told Ben Golliver of The Crossover.

"I haven't had any conversations about free agency or about anything. If there's something that anybody hears throughout the course of the season, it's false, because it didn't come from me. ... This season is just like any other season. My main focus is to accomplish what we're here to accomplish, and that's a championship."

Griffin has an early termination clause in his contract that could allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Since he's in line to earn a hefty raise and lock down contractual security over the subsequent seasons, it's expected he'll test the market.

Where Griffin would go from there is anyone's guess. No rumors have emerged as to his preferred destination, but the Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly dead set on retaining him, while the Oklahoma City Thunder are reportedly interested in bringing Griffin back to his hometown.

Griffin subtly shut down the homecoming theory.

"That talk doesn't impact me," Griffin said. "It's always going to be there. Fans always want to speculate. ... There's so much basketball to play. I don't want to say what other players do is none of my business, because it does affect your business whether you're playing against them. But whether KD is in Oklahoma or Golden State, it's all the same. We're going to lace up and play whatever team anybody is with."
