Ingram to see time at point guard for Lakers

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers will apparently feature a rotating cast of multi-positional youngsters at point guard this season, a group that includes Brandon Ingram.

Ostensibly a small forward, the 6-foot-9 rookie will see some time at the point in the Lakers' season opener against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night, head coach Luke Walton told reporters, according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.

Walton explained that he likes Ingram's decision-making, apparently enough to let him quarterback the offense for stretches.

One expects Ingram will still primarily be used as a forward, as the backcourt is pretty well covered between sophomore point guard D'Angelo Russell, third-year combo guard Jordan Clarkson, veteran shooting guard Lou Williams, and veteran point guards Jose Calderon and Marcelo Huertas.

It's clear, however, that Walton views his players' roles as being somewhat fluid, and in a season entirely devoid of expectations, experimentation comes at little to no cost.
