Hawks sign Schroder to reported 4-year, $62M extension

The Atlanta Hawks have reached an agreement with point guard Dennis Schroder on a four-year extension.

The 23-year-old guard announced the deal on Twitter:

ESPN's Marc Stein reports that Schroder's contract will pay him a guaranteed $62 million over the next four seasons. Stein initially reported that Schroder would make $70 million, but sources have told him $8 million of that is tied to incentives.

His deal will reportedly have no annual raises, paying him out a flat rate of $15.5 million per year.

The Hawks made their intentions clear when they moved starting point guard Jeff Teague this summer for a first-round pick. Schroder was to be promoted from backup to Atlanta's lead guard of the future.

Schroder profiles as a lightning-quick playmaker, who is excellent getting to the basket and involving his teammates. His jump shot is inconsistent and he struggles with turnovers on account of wildness, but the talent is clearly there.

The young German put up averages of 11 points and 4.4 assists in 20.3 minutes per game last season.
