Durant: Loss to Spurs 'a slap in the face'

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Kevin Durant era with the Golden State Warriors did not begin as planned.

After a 129-100 drubbing at home at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, the superstar said it was a wake-up call for his club.

"It's a slap in the face," Durant told reporters, according to Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post. "Woke us up a bit."

Durant led the Warriors with 27 points, and was second on the team with 10 rebounds. Yet they had trouble stopping the Spurs all night, inside and beyond the arc.

"I think our guys were embarrassed tonight," head coach Steve Kerr added after the loss, as reported by ESPN's Marc Stein. "I know I was."

The Warriors are now under .500 in the regular season for the first time in Kerr's tenure as coach.
