Cavaliers' Iman Shumpert: Placed in concussion protocol

Shumpert (head) was placed in the league's concussion protocol after being removed from Tuesday's win over the Knicks, Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reports.

Analysis:

Shumpert was forced out of the season opener in the third quarter after banging his head while trying to drive past the Knicks' Kristaps Porzingis. He's now the second Cavaliers player in less than a week to enter the protocol after rookie Kay Felder suffered a head injury in practice last Friday. Though he's a more natural wing player, Felder's absence in the opener resulted in Shumpert acting as the main backup at point guard to Kyrie Irving. If Shumpert and Felder both remain sidelined for the Friday and Saturday back-to-back set against the Raptors and Magic, respectively, the depth-starved Cavs could be forced to turn to DeAndre Liggins as their No. 2 point guard.
