Knicks' title odds tumble after slew of small wagers

With the 2016-17 NBA season set to kick off in earnest Tuesday night, fans and speculators will get their first glimpse of the revamped New York Knicks team that's been so difficult to peg.

The Knicks' offseason additions of Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee, and Brandon Jennings; the continued hype around super sophomore Kristaps Porzingis; and the continued reliability of Carmelo Anthony have bettors dreaming big.

The Knicks - who'll start their season in Cleveland against the defending champion Cavaliers - opened with 100-1 title odds at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, a line that prompted more bets on the Knicks to win the championship than on any other team, ESPN's David Purdum reports.

Thanks to all those bets, the Knicks' title odds have been knocked all the way down to 60-1 at Westgate, and reportedly down to 20-1 at MGM sportsbooks.

The bets on the Knicks have been many, but minor. MGM's assistant sportsbook manager Jeff Sherman told Purdum that the average wager on the Knicks is $25.

Before they even think about going after a ring, the Knicks need to focus on making the playoffs, something they haven't done the past three seasons.
