The Phoenix Suns made an unexpected move to release guard Archie Goodwin on Monday, sources told Shams Charania of The Vertical.
Phoenix didn't need to waive Goodwin's guaranteed deal given that they had two unguaranteed contracts on the books. However, it appears the team will move forward instead with journeyman guard John Jenkins and forward Derrick Jones.
Goodwin, the former 29th pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, showed flashes of promise last season as he nailed down a bench role for the Suns. He averaged career highs in points (8.9), assists (2.1), and minutes (19.5).
