Mavericks' Seth Curry: Could have 'significant role' to start season

Curry is expected to hold a "significant role" with the Mavericks to begin the season, ESPN.com's Tim MacMahon reports.

Analysis:

It appears the Mavericks could be without Devin Harris (foot) for the first handful of games of the season, and though J.J. Barea (elbow) is likely to play in Wednesday's opener against the Pacers, he could still face some playing-time restrictions. Those injury situations could allow Curry to serve as the Mavericks' top backcourt player off the bench, a role that may prove fruitful over the course of the campaign. With Barea, Harris and starting point guard Deron Williams all over 30 years old and showing increasingly less durability, it's not difficult to envision Curry picking up several starts and large minute loads along the way. Curry thrived as a scorer and distributor on the few occasions he saw major minutes for the Kings last season, so he makes for a strong speculative pickup if he's on the waiver wire in deeper leagues.
