Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Expects to play in season opener

Allen (knee) expects to play in Wednesday's regular season opener against the Timberwolves, Michael Wallace of Grizzlies.com reports.

Analysis:

Coach David Fizdale mentioned on Sunday that he thought Allen was "getting close" to a return, so this most recent report only further validates Fizdale's optimism. Allen was able to practice in full over the weekend and as long as he doesn't have any lingering soreness over the next two days, he should be ready to go on Wednesday. He's expected to jump into the starting lineup at shooting guard right off the bat, although it remains to be seen if Allen's minutes will be limited in his first game back.
