Metta World Peace makes Lakers' roster

Veteran forward Metta World Peace is going to continue playing basketball in Hollywood just a little while longer.

The 36-year-old has earned a spot on the Los Angeles Lakers' 15-man roster for the upcoming 2016-17 regular season, the team announced Monday.

Anthony Brown, the team's 35th overall pick in the 2015 draft, didn't make the cut. Los Angeles also waived Yi Jianlian after the Chinese big man requested his release.

Had World Peace not survived the final wave of cuts, the Lakers were reportedly interested in keeping him on the payroll as an assistant coach.

In a rather rare occurrence, World Peace is actually older than the head coach he'll be playing for. Walton turned 36 back in March, while World Peace will celebrate his 37th birthday on Nov. 13.

Entering his 17th season in the Association and sixth in purple and gold, World Peace's role will likely be as an emergency three or four off the bench should injuries arise to members of the team's young roster.

He made 35 appearances for Los Angeles last season, averaging five points and 2.5 rebounds for the worst team in franchise history at 17-65. World Peace is also a former All-Star (2014), Defensive Player of the Year (2004), and two-time All-Defensive First Team member (2004, 2006).
