Heat's Josh Richardson: Doesn't take contact Sunday

Richardson (knee) was unable to take contact during Sunday's practice, Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald reports.

Analysis:

With just two full days before the Heat begin the regular season Wednesday against the Magic on Wednesday, it appears highly unlikely that Richardson, who has missed the entire preseason while recovering from a partially-torn MCL in his right knee, will be available. The Heat haven't outlined an official target date for Richardson's return, and that likely won't come until he's cleared to take contact during practices. While Richardson should contend for major minutes on the wing when he returns, Dion Waiters looks in line to open the season as the starting shooting guard, while Tyler Johnson serves as the top backup at both guard spots.
