Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Questionable for season opener

Allen (knee) is nearing a return to full strength, Pete Wickham of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. "[Allen] looked good, and I think he's getting close," coach David Fizdale said. "I don't want to say there's guarantees [about when will be back], but he went through the whole practice [Sunday] and all of [Saturday]. We don't go for continuous long stretches of time, but he's looking better, and I'm hoping we get him back soon."

Analysis:

Allen logged his first full practice Saturday after missing the entire preseason, but it remains to be seen if he'll receive clearance for Wednesday's season opener against the Timberwolves. As long as there isn't significant swelling and pain in his right knee, Allen should continue practicing fully over the next few days before the Grizzlies' render a decision on his status for the opener during Wednesday's morning shootaround. Allen is slated to begin the 2016-17 campaign as the Grizzlies' starting shooting guard.
