Mavericks' J.J. Barea: Could miss season opener

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged that Barea (elbow) could be at risk of missing Wednesday's season opener against the Pacers, Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News reports. "I don't know that [Barea] is definitely going to be ready for Indiana," Carlisle said.

Analysis:

Barea ended up missing the Mavs' final two preseason games with a hyperextended left elbow, and although he seems to be progressing as expected with his recovery, Carlisle may need to see how he looks in a full practice before keeping him active in the regular season. Seth Curry would likely take on a larger role with the second unit if Barea is sidelined in the short term.
