Spurs' Jonathon Simmons: Not expected to miss season opener

Coach Gregg Popovich said that Simmons (calf) will miss "a few days," but the swingman is not expected to miss Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Warriors, Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News reports.

Analysis:

With the Spurs ruling Danny Green (quad) out for three weeks and Simmons also sitting out Friday's preseason finale against the Rockets with a calf contusion, the team suddenly finds itself thin on healthy bodies at shooting guard. Kyle Anderson ended up settling into the starting lineup Friday in place of Green, but if Simmons' injury proves to be as minor as the Spurs suggest, he could end up absorbing a decent chunk of Green's minutes, too. At the very least, look for Simmons to move up to the second unit, with him and Manu Ginobili serving as the top two backup wings behind Anderson and Kawhi Leonard.
