76ers' Jerryd Bayless: Will not need surgery

The 76ers announced Friday that Bayless wouldn't require surgery to treat his sore left wrist, but will remained sidelined before being reevaluated in two weeks.

Analysis:

After missing the entire preseason due to the wrist issue, Bayless was never looked like a safe bet to be ready for the start of the regular season, but this news at least provides a timetable through which to track his recovery. Bayless hasn't been able to do anything more than limited non-contact workouts since he was diagnosed with the injury, and it's possible that he may be kept off the court entirely before being reevaluated. As a result, even if he's deemed healthy after the two weeks, Bayless will still likely need further time beyond that to get his conditioning back up to par, so we may not see him make his debut until mid-November or later. In the meantime, T.J. McConnell is expected to start at point guard, while Sergio Rodriguez assumes an increased workload as McConnell's primary backup.
