The Atlanta Hawks trimmed their preseason roster on Thursday by waiving veteran point guard Jarrett Jack, according to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Hawks' roster now stands at 17, with two more cuts to be made before opening night.

Jack is still rehabbing from the right knee surgery he underwent in January, after suffering a season-ending torn ACL while playing for the Brooklyn Nets. He'd been unable to practice, had not appeared in any of the Hawks' preseason games, and was not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

After he was waived by the Nets this summer, Jack signed a one-year contract with the Hawks for the veteran's minimum. The deal, worth just under $1 million, was fully guaranteed, so the Hawks' willingness to swallow the whole amount suggests they really didn't have much hope of Jack contributing this season.

The soon-to-be 33-year-old averaged 12.8 points and a career-high 7.4 assists in 32 games for the Nets last season, but shot a career-worst 39.1 percent from the field and just 30.4 percent from 3-point range.
