Lakers' Nick Young: Drills five threes in preseason start

Young finished with 19 points (7-13 FG, 5-10 3Pt, 0-2 FT), three rebounds, two assists, and two steals across 30 minutes in Wednesday's 123-112 loss to the Warriors.

Analysis:

Young was firing early and often from downtown, attempting a team-high 10 triples while starting at small forward in place of Luol Deng, who sat out for rest. While Young looked to be on the outs with the Lakers after ending last season will a string of inactives, he seems to have been given new life under first-year coach Luke Walton. Not only has Young reached double figures in points in four of six games, but he's done so with atypical efficiency. He's gone 28-for-51 (54.9%) from the field and 19-for-35 (54.2%) from three-point range while committing only two turnovers across six games. Young's track record suggests that he's just enjoying a hot run that will have a short shelf life, but his timing couldn't be better as he looks to secure a spot in Walton's rotation to begin the regular season.
