Celtics' Marcus Smart: Could miss multiple weeks

Smart is expected to miss a "couple of weeks" after suffering a sprained left ankle in Wednesday's preseason finale against the Knicks, A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN New England reports.

Analysis:

Smart suffered the injury in the second quarter of the contest and appeared to be in great pain as he was held to the locker room. While the Celtics won't know the full extent of Smart's injury until they reevaluate him Thursday, the team is hopeful that having the ankle taped up beforehand will have ended up saving him from a longer recovery timetable. That said, it's already been determined that Smart won't have recovered in time for the start of the regular season and likely for a few games beyond that, which should translate to more playing time for Terry Rozier on the second unit.
