Pelicans' Anthony Davis: Expected to play opening night

Davis (ankle) is expected to play in the Pelicans' regular season opener on Oct. 26 against the Nuggets, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.

Analysis:

Davis has apparently made significant progress in his recovery from a Grade 2 ankle sprain in recent days, as he practiced with the team Wednesday and he could even play in the Pelicans' preseason finale Thursday against the Magic, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein. Whether he plays Thursday or not, it doesn't look like Davis is at risk of missing the start of the season, which is obviously great news considering Davis' status for that Oct. 26 game was thought to be in serious jeopardy just a few days ago.
