Rockets' Patrick Beverley: Could undergo knee surgery

Beverley could potentially require surgery on his sore left knee, Calvin Watkins of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Beverley will have the knee evaluated later this week, after which the Rockets should make a determination whether surgery is necessary. Even if he doesn't have the procedure, coach Mike D'Antoni already sounded resigned to the idea of not having Beverley will be available for the season opener on Oct. 26 against the Lakers, so it appears the injury is going to linger a bit longer than originally expected. If Beverley does miss some time early on in the regular season, look for the Rockets to go with a starting backcourt of James Harden and Eric Gordon.
