Colangelo: Sixers, Noel haven't discussed extension

Raj Mehta / USA TODAY Sports

The deadline for rookie extensions is only a couple weeks away, and Philadelphia 76ers president Bryan Colangelo has yet to open talks with Nerlens Noel.

"It's not really something that we've discussed, given some of the concerns that I think Nerlens has had, right now," Colangelo told Keith Pompey of philly.com. "There's been very little if any discussion with his agents about any extension scenarios. But, I'll just leave it at that."

Teams have until Oct. 31 to work out extensions for players on rookie-scale contracts, giving Philadelphia little time should they choose to open talks with Noel. If the sides fail to agree on a deal, Noel will become a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2016-17 campaign.

Noel has found himself the subject of trade rumors since Colangelo's arrival last season, including one that had him going to Boston Celtics in exchange for the No. 3 pick in the 2016 draft. The 22-year-old seems to realize a trade from the Sixers crowded frontcourt is inevitable, saying it's "silly" Philadelphia possesses three starting centers.

The 6-foot-11 big man served as one of Philadelphia's lone bright spots last season, averaging career-highs in points (11.1) and assists (1.8) while shooting 52.1 percent from the floor.
