Rockets' Patrick Beverley: Iffy for regular season opener

Coach Mike D'Antoni said Tuesday that the team isn't counting on having Beverley (knee) available for the regular-season opener against the Lakers on Oct. 26, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Analysis:

Beverley's recovery from a sore left knee continues to be handled on a day-by-day basis, and the point guard is expected to meet with doctors a few more times over the next week. D'Antoni noted that he expects to have a clearer timetable available by the end of the week, so at that point, we should have a better read on whether or not Beverley will be available for the opener. If he's not, the Rockets would likely insert Eric Gordon into the starting lineup and use James Harden as their starting point guard.
