Wizards' Ian Mahinmi: Expected to miss 4-6 weeks

Mahinmi underwent surgery Friday to address a partially torn medial meniscus in his left knee and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.

Analysis:

Mahinmi had been limited on occasions during the preseason due to a sore knee, but after undergoing an MRI following Thursday's game against the 76ers, the team determined his injury was more severe than the Wizards had anticipated. Mahinmi was slated to open the regular season as the top backup to center Marcin Gortat, but now that he's set to miss a month or more of action, Jason Smith and Andrew Nicholson will likely pick up increased minutes with the second unit.
