While Derrick Rose deals with his rape case in Los Angeles, his New York Knicks teammates are learning to play together.

Carmelo Anthony hopes his new starting point guard can return soon, so he doesn't get left behind.

"I'm pretty sure if I was (head coach Jeff Hornacek) I'd be calling Derrick and telling him, 'Hurry up. Figure it out and hurry up back,'" Anthony told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

"Just because the way the team is starting to jell together and come together, the camaraderie we're starting to create with one another, we don't want him missing out on that."

Anthony could soon get his way, as the judge in Rose's case intends to finish the trial Tuesday, and Hornacek expects the former MVP to return next week.

When he does, New York can finally start learning to run its new offense with less than two weeks remaining until the regular season begins.

The Knicks acquired several players over the summer, with the hope they'll help the team make the playoffs following a three-year hiatus.

They'll open the campaign Oct. 25 versus the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
