Pelicans' Anthony Davis: To miss 10-to-15 days with ankle sprain

Davis (ankle) was diagnosed with a Grade 2 ankle sprain following Tuesday's 116-104 preseason loss to the Rockets and is expected to miss 10-to-15 days, Marc Spears of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

While the Pelicans maintain the injury isn't overly serious, Davis was spotted in a walking boot after the game, and it now seems highly unlikely that he'll play in either of the team's remaining two exhibition contests. The Pelicans kick off the regular season against the Nuggets on Oct. 26, so if Davis ends up trending toward the tail end of that 10-to-15 day timetable, his status for the opener could be in jeopardy. The Pelicans will once again rely heavily on Davis for production at both ends of the floor this season, especially after parting ways with both Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson over the summer. Davis' talent has never been in doubt, but injuries have been his downfall, as he's missed at least 14 games in each of his four NBA seasons, including 21 in 2015-16.
