Devin Harris is a good person.

The Dallas Mavericks guard was honored Monday at the 8th annual Feed Just One gala for his efforts to feed the hungry.

Since being drafted by the Mavs in 2004, Harris has provided over 30,000 meals for people in Dallas out of the kindness of his heart.

"Honestly, I don't do it for the recognition," the 33-year-old told Jim Cowsert of the Star-Telegram. "I just do it because it feels good to me and it's something I enjoy doing.

Cheryl Jackson, who's a co-founder of the non-profit organization that runs the event, is grateful for the former All-Star's contributions.

"(Harris is) very soft-spoken, but his giving speaks loud," she said.

"He joined us when we said nobody should be hungry, and he said, 'I absolutely agree, and let me put my money where my mouth is.'"

Harris insisted he's just trying to do his part.

"I'm a big fan of giving back, especially feeding families who are less fortunate than myself," he added. "That's the reason why I give turkeys during Thanksgiving and give toys. We all try to do our part, and I just try to do my part."

Head coach Rick Carlisle presented the award to Harris, calling him the "epitome of loyalty for the Metroplex."

He added, "He's been a phenomenal contributor both on the court in the community and we're very proud of him."
