Bulls' Taj Gibson: Power forward spot still up for grabs

Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg indicated Tuesday that he hasn't decided who among Gibson, Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis will open the season as the team's starting power forward, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:

Through the Bulls' first three preseason games, each player has been given a chance to start, and Hoiberg said he expects the competition to go until the final week of the preseason. Gibson looks like the clear frontrunner at the moment to land the starting role, as in addition to being the top defender of the three, he's performed the best in the preseason, averaging 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds over 19.0 minutes per game. Regardless of who wins the job, all three players will be fixtures in the rotation this season, but it's still unclear how the minutes will shake out on a night-to-night basis.
