76ers' Bayless could miss start of season with wrist injury

Jerryd Bayless is slated to be the Philadelphia 76ers' new starting point guard, but he may not even be on the floor when the 2016-17 season begins.

The 28-year-old sat out his second preseason game Thursday with a left wrist injury, as the 76ers fell 125-119 in double overtime to the Washington Wizards at the Wells Fargo Center.

He had an MRI on Wednesday, and the team said it will make an announcement concerning his availability in the near future, according to Philly.com's Keith Pompey.

"It's not the best right now," Bayless said of his wrist, according to Pompey. When asked whether he could miss games once the season gets underway, he responded, "Yeah, I might."

Bayless inked a three-year, $27-million contract with the organization during the summer after playing the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Sixers are his seventh team since he went 11th overall to the Indiana Pacers (who immediately traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers) in 2008.

He's averaging 8.5 points and 2.9 assists on 41.5 percent shooting over 510 career appearances.
