Lillard: 'I might have too much pride' to join a super team

Kevin Durant signed with a Golden State Warriors squad this summer already bolstering the talents of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.

LeBron James headed to South Beach in 2010 to play alongside Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.

Damian Lillard ... will never do such a thing himself, aligning with other superstars in the prime of their careers in order to capture an NBA championship.

"If somebody wants to go join people and do that, it's not against the rules. They can do it," Lillard said during an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio on Monday.

"It's just more pressure to win when you do it. Some people say, 'Oh, they had to do that to win it,' but we play the game to win it. So when people do it, that's their decision. I wouldn't do it. That's just not who I am.

"I might have too much pride for that or be too much of a competitor where I couldn't bring myself to do it, but it also makes it more fun. You get to take a monster down and that's always fun."

There may not be a more prideful talent in the league today than Lillard, who has used his past All-Star snubs to elevate his game during the latter half of seasons, feeling he was unjustly left off the squads in the first place.

He signed a five-year, $120-million extension with Portland last summer, and averaged 21.4 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds during the 2015-16 campaign.
