Kings' Ty Lawson: Could start first eight games of season

Lawson is the leading candidate to open the season as the Kings' starting point guard while Darren Collison serves an eight-game suspension, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports.

Analysis:

Lawson inked a one-year deal with the Kings this offseason that isn't fully guaranteed, but with only well-traveled veteran Jordan Farmar and second-round pick Isaiah Cousins behind him on the depth chart at point guard, he's clearly the top option to start during Collison's absence. The 28-year-old is coming off a miserable season with the Rockets and Pacers, but as recently as 2014-15, he was an excellent fantasy option at point guard with the Nuggets, averaging 15.2 points, 9.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 35.5 minutes per game. It seems unlikely that Lawson will approach that level of production when he starts, but he could have some useful short-term fantasy value in mid-sized or deeper leagues while the minutes are there. Once Collison returns, however, much of Lawson's value will probably dissipate.
