Report: Rockets not negotiating with Motiejunas ahead of weekend deadline

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets remain at a standstill with restricted free agent Donatas Motiejunas with his qualifying offer set to expire, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reports, citing sources.

With no deal in sight, Motiejunas will likely accept Houston's $4.4-million qualifying offer ahead of the deadline, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season, Wojnarowski reports.

Motiejunas' agent, B.J. Armstrong, claimed earlier this month that the Rockets had yet to make the 25-year-old "a serious offer" and were "using the rules of restricted free agency to their advantage."

Houston attempted to trade Motiejunas at last year's deadline, but the deal was later nullified after the big man failed his physical with the Detroit Pistons.

Motiejunas averaged 6.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 37 games this past season.
