Fizdale will have Gasol sit out games during regular season

Preserving two-time All-Star Marc Gasol's health is crucial should the Memphis Grizzlies want to advance deep into the playoffs. If that means sacrificing some games along the way, then so be it.

"There will be some games we sit him," new head coach David Fizdale told reporters during the team's media day Monday. "I'm definitely going to preserve him."

The 31-year-old center was recently cleared to resume all basketball activity after undergoing surgery on his broken right foot, which cost him the latter half of the 2015-16 season and Memphis' first-round series with the San Antonio Spurs.

He was forced to leave after planting his foot awkwardly while chasing down a ball against the Portland Trail Blazers on Feb 8, and was later diagnosed with a Type II fracture of his navicular bone.
