Pelicans' Terrence Jones: Could see time at center

Coach Alvin Gentry said Wednesday that Jones could play some center for the Pelicans this season, Justin Verrier of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Jones signed with the Pelicans this offseason with the expectation he'd serve in a depth role at both forward spots, but with neither Alexis Ajinca or Omer Asik profiling as great options at center, it's possible the Kentucky product could see a look there in order for New Orleans to put their best lineup on the floor. It's more likely that the Pelicans would just shift Anthony Davis over to center to allow Jones to match up against power forwards, but either way, it seems Jones could have a pathway to starter-level minutes, even if he remains a bench player in name. The 24-year-old struggled mightily with the Rockets last season while battling injury, but averaged 11.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in 2014-15. He'll be a decent upside target in the later rounds of deep-league drafts.
