Jazz's Alec Burks: Doesn't take contact Tuesday

Burks (knee) didn't take part in full-contact drills during Tuesday's practice and is uncertain to take part in preseason games, Jody Genessy of Deseret News reports.

Analysis:

The Jazz are acting cautiously with Burks after his 2015-16 campaign was derailed by surgery to repair a fractured left fibula, limiting him to 31 games. Though he was able to come back from the December operation to rejoin the Jazz at the tail end of the season, Burks required a follow-up arthroscopic procedure in June to clean out debris in his left knee and ankle. He appears to have progressed well from the surgery, but won't be cleared to take part in games until he's deemed ready to take full contract. That's expected to happen before the regular season begins, but Burks may still see his role downgraded a bit in 2016-17 with the Jazz getting Dante Exum (knee) back to full health and signing Joe Johnson in the offseason.
