Popovich: Duncan to be 'coach of whatever he wants' with Spurs

Tim Duncan's playing days with the San Antonio Spurs are officially over, but his career with them isn't.

The future Hall of Famer, who announced his retirement this offseason, will have an "official role" with the Spurs in 2016-17, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports.

The 40-year-old may get to choose his job after spending his entire career with San Antonio, winning five championships.

Head coach Gregg Popovich coached Duncan for all 19 years and said Monday that "The Big Fundamental" will be the "coach of whatever he wants to be."

Considering the 15-time All-Defensive player ranks top 10 in all-time rebounds (7th), blocks (6th), and defensive win shares (2nd), he could select a position that allows him to coach players at that end of the court.

Also a 15-time All-Star and two-time league MVP, Duncan holds franchise records in win shares, points, rebounds, blocks, field goals, free-throw attempts, minutes, and games played.

What a relief that after two decades, Duncan's legacy with the Spurs will continue after all.
