Pistons discussing extensions for KCP, Bullock
The Detroit Pistons are hoping to lock in their young core for the foreseeable future.
General manager Jeff Bower told Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press the team has started preliminary discussions on extensions for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Bullock.
"We’re probably continue to take those talks a little bit further through the month and see if there’s an opportunity to reach an extension now and if we can, that will be great for both of us," Bower said.
Both Caldwell-Pope and Bullock are eligible for extensions as they head into the fourth year of their rookie deals. They would become restricted free agents - with Detroit maintaining rights to match offers - if they're unable to work out new contracts.
Of the two, Caldwell-Pope has enjoyed more success. The 23-year-old is an excellent defender, and has started every game he's played in each of the past two seasons. He could stand to improve his jumper, but has all the makings of an excellent 3-and-D wing.
Bullock, meanwhile, has struggled to find minutes while bouncing between three franchises in three years. He did, however, find a modicum of success after getting traded to the Pistons last year, hitting 41.5 percent from deep across 37 appearances.
The team has until Oct. 31 to work out potential extensions.
