Heat's Chris Bosh: Fails physical

Bosh (blood clots) failed a physical conducted earlier this week and is without a timetable to return.

Analysis:

Both Bosh and many within the Heat organization had expressed optimism at various points throughout the offseason that the 11-time All-Star would be ready to return for the start of training camp next week while continuing to take blood-thinning medication, but with doctors still determining that Bosh was dealing with evidence of blood clotting in his left calf, his comeback has been thwarted. After seeing back-to-back seasons end prematurely due to the condition, it's looking increasingly likely that the 32-year-old's career could be on thin ice. Bosh has expressed his dissatisfaction with the organization's handling of his situation, and this latest setback may only further damage those relations, as the power forward has insisted that he has no intentions of stepping away from the game. While he's still owed $76 million over the next three seasons even if he doesn't play again, Bosh's contract will count against the Heat's salary cap until at least Feb. 9, after which he could be released if an impartial doctor agrees that his condition is career ending. At this point, the odds are against Bosh playing professional basketball again, so he won't make for an appealing flier even at the tail end of deep-league drafts.
