Cavaliers' Mo Williams: Shoots down retirement rumors

Williams indicated Wednesday on his personal Twitter account that he'll return for the 2016-17 season.

Analysis:

There were various reports throughout the offseason suggesting that Williams was contemplating retirement and could be released by the Cavaliers prior to the season, but the veteran's Twitter post reaffirms his commitment to the NBA champs. While the announcement doesn't fully guarantee that Williams' roster spot with the Cavaliers is secure, the team's lack of proven depth behind starting point guard Kyrie Irving would make it surprising if the 33-year-old was released. Williams averaged a 18.2 minutes per game last season -- his fewest since his rookie year in 2003-04 -- and is unlikely to see his playing time climb upward in 2016-17, especially if second-round rookie Kay Felder quickly demonstrates that he's a capable rotation option while coming off the bench.
