Lakers' Thomas Robinson: Signs contract with Lakers

Robinson signed a one-year contract with the Lakers on Wednesday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

Robinson was perhaps the most intriguing player left on a barren free-agent market and could prove to be a nice bargain pickup for the Lakers. After being drafted as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Robinson has largely failed to live up to expectations and has will now join his sixth different organization, but he made promising progress late last season. In addition to suiting up in a career-high 71 games for the rebuilding Nets, Robinson closed the year with six double-doubles in a seven-game stretch before he was shut down with a minor knee injury. Robinson isn't a lock to make the Lakers' roster, but his draft pedigree and strong finish to the season may give him a leg up on his primary competition for the team's 15th spot, Yi Jianlian.
