Pelicans' Anthony Davis: Won't face restrictions to begin season

Pelicans GM Dell Demps said Wednesday that Davis will face no restrictions to open the regular season, John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Analysis:

The Pelicans shut Davis down last March to undergo a procedure to address a stress fracture in his left knee cap and to recover from a torn labrum in his left shoulder, which didn't require surgery. He ended up suiting up in a career-low 61 games, marking the fourth time in as many seasons in the league that he's failed to play even 70 games. Shortly after it was announced that he would be shut down for the season, it was revealed Davis had been playing with the labrum tear since his rookie year of 2012-13, so there's some hope that the time off to let the shoulder heal will leave him fresher than ever heading into the upcoming campaign. Coach Alvin Gentry indicated that while Davis is still recovering from the two injuries, he's on track to resume pickup games in the next few weeks before entering training camp at full strength.
