Grizzlies' Marc Gasol: Will take part in Oct. 1 scrimmage

Gasol (foot) is slated to appear in a full-team scrimmage scheduled for Oct. 1, Peter Fleischer of WHBQ-TV Memphis reports.

Analysis:

Since the Grizzlies are actively advertising Gasol as a participant in the scrimmage, it appears safe to say that the organization feels that he's fully recovered from February surgery to repair a fractured right foot. Gasol said he narrowly missed out on being cleared to suit up for the Spanish national team during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro during August, but the extra time off was probably more beneficial to the rehab process. While the track record of players of Gasol's size and age returning from foot injuries and continuing to play at their peak level isn't promising, the center didn't have much a prior history of foot problems before lat season. It would be wise to track his performance and health throughout training camp before investing an early draft pick in him.
