Rivers once again shoots down Blake Griffin trade rumors

Doc Rivers is going to repeat himself until everyone believes him.

Under his watch, the Los Angeles Clippers will not trade Blake Griffin. No matter what rumors are out there, Rivers remains resolute that he isn't moving his embattled superstar.

"We knew none of it was true. We figured that was one of you guys starting these rumors here in Boston. I was trying to find out who it was," Rivers said while hosting the annual ABCD Hoops Dream fundraiser at TD Garden.

Rumors surfaced in July that the Boston Celtics, a familiar franchise for Rivers, were targeting Griffin with a package of picks. Five months before that, the Denver Nuggets also reportedly pushed for a potential Griffin trade.

However, Griffin remains on the roster, and Rivers has been adamant that he would not move his starting power forward.

Earlier this summer, Rivers would only admit to speaking with Celtics general manager Danny Ainge on two occasions this summer, but he claimed they only discussed golf and nothing more.

As it were, trading Griffin wouldn't make much sense for a Clippers squad that's built to contend. The Clippers have three All-NBA caliber players - why bust that up?

However, both Rivers and the Clippers are on the clock. Griffin and point guard Chris Paul, among others, are slated to become free agents next summer, and that could spell the end of Lob City should one of them leave.

"Unfortunately, Blake and CP are free agents (after this season). Just like last year Oklahoma (City) had to deal with that, now it's our turn," Rivers said.
