Thomas, Erving, Russell, Mourning to induct Shaq into Hall of Fame

Shaquille O'Neal will have his legacy cemented in Springfield, Massachusetts when the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2016 gets enshrined on Sept. 9.

"The Big Aristotle" told The Vertical's Shams Charania that he has personally selected four NBA legends and soon-to-be fellow Hall of Famers to present him during the ceremony on Friday.

The list consists of Isiah Thomas, Bill Russell, Julius Erving, and Alonzo Mourning.

Also receiving their inductions will be:

  • Allen Iverson (Player)
  • Jerry Reinsdorf (Owner)
  • Sheryl Swoopes (Player)
  • Tom Izzo (Head Coach)
  • Zelmo Beatty (Player)
  • Darell Garretson (Referee)
  • John McLendon (Head Coach)
  • Cumberland Posey (Player)
  • John McLendon (Head Coach)

O'Neal played 19 seasons in the NBA from 1992 to 2011, winning four championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat. He was also a former league Most Valuable Player (2000), a three-time Finals MVP, a 15-time All-Star, and eight-time member of the All-NBA First Team.
