Celtics' Jerebko serious about eSports investment

Boston Celtics forward Jonas Jerebko is the latest NBA name to dip into the world of eSports team ownership, finalizing a deal to purchase the Renegades franchise earlier in August.

He's negotiated contracts with the players on the team, and will now put them up in a house and training facility in suburban Detroit, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell.

Jerebko, who has served as a team representative for the National Basketball Players Association, said he won't engage in questionable business practices, as has allegedly occurred in the eSports industry.

"The Call of Duty players we were negotiating with were under contract last year and weren't getting paid for three to five months," Jerebko said. "That's not going to happen with me. You get a paycheck on time."

Jerebko played 78 games for the Celtics last season - the most since his rookie year with the Detroit Pistons - averaging 4.4 points on career-high 39.8 percent 3-point shooting. To date, he's earned about $24.2 million in his seven-year career.

Former players Rick Fox and Shaquille O'Neal have also invested in eSports franchises.
