The San Antonio Spurs are working on a deal to sign Argentinian guard Nicolas Laprovittola, sources tell ESPN's Marc Stein.

The 6-foot-2 Laprovittola would become the third Argentinian on the Spurs' roster joining Manu Ginobili and Patricio Garino.

Laprovittola, 26, has been a fixture on the Argentinian national team since 2008, when he led the Under-18 team to gold. He would later join the senior team in 2012, and helped secure a bronze and a silver at the FIBA Americas Championships in 2013 and 2015, respectively.

At Rio 2016, Laprovittola came off the bench for Argentina and chipped in with averages of 8.2 points, two rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

At the professional level, Laprovittola made his way up through the Argentinian league before breaking out as one of the top players in all of South America. In two seasons with Brazilian club Flamengo, Laprovittola averaged 13.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the field and 45.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The Spurs have 14 guaranteed contracts on the roster, which would leave Laprovittola to compete with the likes of Garino, Ryan Arcidiacono, and Bryn Forbes for the final spot on the team.
