Rose: I was 'hurt at first' by trade from hometown Bulls

While the Chicago Bulls' decision to move Derrick Rose this summer was far from shocking to the majority of NBA fans, the New York Knicks point guard was considerably more surprised by his move to the Big Apple.

"I couldn’t believe it. "I was kind of hurt at first, of course, coming from my hometown and moving, period," Rose told The Vertical's Nick DePaula. "Being away from my kids and away my family, that’s going to get to you, no matter who you are. You’re going to be emotional about it."

After earning the MVP in just his third NBA season, Rose looked like a shell of his former self during the latter half of his Bulls career, as injuries and a loss of athleticism eventually led Chicago to trade him this offseason.

"I don't know why I was traded, but I would like to say thank you," Rose said in his introductory press conference with the Knicks.

Although he doesn't regret his time in Chicago, the 27-year-old is excited for a new chapter of his career, where he'll look to help the Knicks reach the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

"I’m going to a great market, and to a city where they love basketball and basketball is a culture there," Rose said. "They just love players that play hard, and I think that I fit that personality. I’m a person that’s going to play hard and give the game everything that he’s got."
